Privacy policy

From Google, when you sign in: your name, email address and profile picture. Your email is never shown to other members.

What you enter:

• Vehicles, including the VIN, purchase details and any loan details (lender, amount, rate, payments)
• Services, parts, costs, fill-ups, registrations and maintenance reminders
• Photos you upload
• Your display name, builds, forum posts, comments and reports
• Marketplace listings, including the ZIP code you give for each one, and the messages you send about them

In your browser: cookies that keep you signed in, and, if you search the Marketplace by distance, the ZIP code and radius you last used. Vent does not use advertising or analytics trackers. If that changes, this policy will say so before it does.

Only to run Vent: storing your records, working out costs, sending reminders and notifications, showing community posts and listings, keeping the community safe (moderation and limits on how fast accounts can post), and replying when you get in touch. Vent does not sell your information and does not show ads.

• Your garage is private. Nobody else sees your vehicles, records or costs unless you share them.
• If you share a build, anyone with the link can see the build, its photos and your display name. Its service history and costs are shown only if you turn them on, and only to signed-in members. The VIN is never shown.
• Forum posts, build comments and Marketplace listings are visible to signed-in members under your display name. A listing shows the town for its ZIP code, and the ZIP code is used to show other members how far away it is.
• Marketplace messages are seen only by you and the other person in the conversation.
• Moderators can see content that has been reported to them, and keep a record of the actions they take.

About photos: photos are stored at long, hard-to-guess web addresses. Anyone who has a photo's address can open it, even without signing in. Don't upload anything in a photo you would not want someone with the link to see.

• Supabase stores the database, sign-ins and photos.
• Vercel hosts the website.
• Google handles signing in.
• When you look up a VIN, the VIN is sent to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public vehicle database to identify the vehicle.

These services only handle your information to provide their part of Vent. Vent will share information with others only if the law requires it.

Everything you have stored stays until you delete it or your account. From Account settings you can download all of it as one file at any time, and delete your account.

Deleting your account is immediate and permanent. Your vehicles, records, photos, builds, listings, notifications and profile are deleted. Your forum posts, replies and build comments stay, shown as “Deleted member”, so other people's discussions still make sense, and your Marketplace conversations stay for the other person. Backups may hold a copy for a short time until they expire.

Your records are protected by access rules in the database, so each member can only reach their own, and everything travels over an encrypted connection. No system is perfect; if something goes wrong that affects your information, you will be told.

Vent is for people aged 18 and over. If you believe someone younger has an account, contact privacy@[domain to come] and it will be removed.

You can see, correct, download and delete your information in the app at any time. For anything else, including a question about this policy, contact privacy@[domain to come]. Some places, such as California, give residents specific privacy rights; Vent honors these requests from everyone, wherever they live.

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. Changes that affect what is collected or who can see it will be announced in the app before they take effect.
